Marywood University
Esports Center
Scranton, PA
The team designed the space to accommodate the current team and future growth of the program, as well as including some breakout spaces for team meetings, viewing, and socialization. A centralized lounge, kitchenette, a personal storage locker area, as well as an office for the program director, round out the space to provide the best environment for the student Esports athletes.
The design team gave the former mailroom new life through unusual lighting elements and finishes. Lighting needed to have a high- tech look and yet be dimmable to set ambiance and reduce screen glare during game play. They balanced the infrastructure concerns with forward aesthetics to make the gaming space efficient, sleek, and controller-ready.
Custom vinyl wall graphics were incorporated to establish the identity of the program and brand this new team space. The graphics depict computer circuits branching around the space, with Marywood’s yellow-gold, radiating from the main graphic featuring Marywood University’s mascot, Maxis. These graphics are bold, bright, and eye catching. They were the final touch to pull together the finishes within the space, and help make this a unique campus space. When you enter, it is very clear where you are, and that you better prepare for some serious competition.
Overall, the design of the space successfully combined the needs and functionality that were set as early goals for this project, while creating a fun, modern atmosphere in which student players can compete, collaborate, and chill.
Game on.
