Insalaco Center for Studio Arts
Scranton, PA

This 65,000 SF center for fine arts defines one side of a green quadrangle by means of a two-story, steel- columned portico. The brick and glass core of the structure nods to adjacent campus buildings while revealing the industrial, functional nature of the studio and the teaching spaces within. The structure and mechanical systems are largely exposed and the building’s interior presents a tough and durable image.    Studio and fine arts merge and find permanence within the raw, exposed materials that comprise this imposing yet open structure. Completed in 2001 at a cost of $7,600,000, the building is home to studios, classrooms and faculty offices for drawing, painting, ceramics, sculpture, printmaking, photography, and graphic design.
