Admissions at the Estate
Scranton, PA

hc architects provided architectural services for the complete interior restoration and renovation of the former Scranton family estate. The building, constructed in 1872, is on the National Registry of Historical Sites. The intent was to restore the building to its original beauty while creating a new home for the Admissions Department.

Enhancements to the Second Empire-style structure required careful planning to meet the needs for efficient use of space; the architectural and interior design teams researched the building’s history and current restoration literature to be certain that their improvements were appropriate to the historic character of the building. Concurrently, the design team’s structural analysis and planning expertise was called upon to create an efficient office area which supports contemporary needs. Interior paint schemes, wall coverings, and floor coverings were also carefully coordinated—paint and wallpaper were selected to reflect the colors and patterns of the original period of construction.

Current functions of the estate include reception areas, a formal dining room, a faculty and staff dining club, lounges, and meeting rooms on the first floor with administrative office suites on the upper floors.
