Dan Beard Cabin
Lackawanna Township, Pike County, PA

hc architects is proud to be part of a group of volunteer professionals who have taken on a meaningful endeavor with the Northeast Pennsylvania Boy Scouts of America Council to relocate the Dan Beard Cabin to the Goose Pond Scout Reservation.

Dan Beard was the founder of The Sons of Daniel Boone in 1905 that later merged with the Boy Scouts of America in 1910. He constructed a cabin for use as a club meeting place and headquarters in 1926.

The relocation involves a 15-mile trip from its current location to the Goose Pond Scout Reservation in Paupack Township and will occur in three phases over several years. The demolition phase involved deconstructing the cabin and labeling each of the logs for reassembly, storage, and protection. Beyond reconstruction of the log cabin, a new wrap-around porch will be constructed to match the former and allow ADA compliancy, and the building will be sited to allow for direct access to an exterior area for scout programs. The interior will be used for multiple types of programs and will be slightly modified to become ADA compliant and include a large open area for gathering, two bedrooms, a bathroom, and it will preserve the “Oriole’s Nest” loft area that is original to the cabin.
