Steamtown National Historic Site
Scranton, PA
The former Delaware, Lackawanna & Western Railroad Yards, now designated as the Steamtown National Historic Site, serves as a working museum of America’s steam railroading past. The museum complex centers on the reconstructed fragment of the 1902 roundhouse and turntable. New structures on the 40-acre site surrounding the turntable house a visitor center, history museum, technology museum, and 250-seat theater. The historic oil house serves as a bookstore and museum shop. Beyond are the rehabilitated maintenance shops.
