Prayer Garde

St. Peter’s Cathedral Prayer Garden

Scranton, PA

hc architects was hired to construct a new prayer garden to grace the area between the Cathedral Rectory and the Cathedral Convent on Wyoming Avenue in Downtown Scranton.  The Prayer Garden replaces what was once an open lawn with several trees and statues.

The Cathedral Prayer Garden is dedicated to the Rosary and Rosary advocate, the late Fr. Patrick Peyton of the Scranton Diocese.  Its intent is to provide a public space for prayer and meditation in Downtown Scranton. The Garden’s entrance is marked by a stately brick and limestone gate, recalling the classical architecture of the adjacent buildings. The interior of the Prayer garden includes five brick and limestone kiosks, which symbolize the four Mysteries, two life-size statues, and a Marian Wall of engraved limestone that pays tribute the Virgin Mary.
